Best Practices for Processing Certificates of Origin
Chambers of Commerce offer a critical service to the exporting community in stamping Certificates of Origin (COs). COs are required by many countries for the certification of the country of manufacture and are used by Customs officials to determine the status of quotas and the rate of duties on goods. Many chambers, however, may not fully understand their role in providing this service. There are many benefits to the chamber, but there are also potential liabilities.
Chambers, therefore, need to carefully develop their operating procedures for authorizing and stamping COs while implementing due diligence measures to mitigate risks. Please join us to learn about Certificates of Origin -- what they are, why they are needed, and our role as Chambers of Commerce in facilitating these documents for exporters. Our speakers will discuss the process of determining country of origin, the benefits and disadvantages for chambers, and best practices for establishing operations to provide this valuable service to members while managing risk.
